Shortly after finishing my magazine in the group, we went to the front of the class and presented it. We put the final result on everyone’s screen slowly going through each page and letting everyone taking the work that we had done. We first showed the cover which immediately gained a positive reception which was a good sign at face value.
We then showed the contents page this page was simple and effective because it showed the reader what was in the magazine in a very straightforward and simple way but also giving the reader an idea of the style that the magazine possessed with good uses of black and white blocks in Stark contrast to draw the eye in, whilst also not being too overwhelming and complicated. This page also Showcase the final order we put our magazine in in terms of pages. We started off with the London film festival article then moving on to a double page spread of to advertisements, then a film review on the release of ” atomic blonde” and then the main story about an upcoming director. And finally a full page spread of an upcoming film created by the said director.
We felt that this order prioritized what the reader had bought the magazine to read about was strategically placing the adverts so that they are so to speak ” unskippable” to maximize production sales.
We then showcased the page featuring the London Film Festival review this seemed to go down a treat as it was accompanied buy very well created poster with an attractive colour scheme. Both the style of the page and the poster complemented each other, attracting the eye whilst also drawing the reader in to take in every bit of information that the article had to offer. Before the presentation we handed out audience reaction sheets, and as we went through the presentation the audience field them out, they seem to really like this page as the poster also was professional and simplistic boosting the quality of the pages.
We then moved on to the double page spread featuring the iPhone advert and the Spotify advert. This part of the magazine was very successful as both of the adverts looks very professional and did a great job of attracting the audiences eye into taking in the details and making them realise why the product on sale is worth their money. At first the thought of two adverts on a double page spread next to each other could seem as if there would be a conflicting battle between them, but the two colour schemes compliment other and they seem to sit together with harmony and fit very well.
The next page was the film review, this page was my personal favorite as everything on the print seem to fit together very nicely. The hot pink background was refreshing to the eye and also complemented the cutouts from the film that also featured a very similar colour scheme. The text was well placed and appeared structured and professional on the page.
The next page was the upcoming director story, the design of this page was subject to very important scrutiny by my team as it was the main story subject of the photo on the cover. This seemed to be a crowd pleaser as the photos that were featured in this page with a professional and informal giving the magazine a friendlier touch as I’m sure the audience appreciates as it’s set it aside from the mega Giants dominating the film magazine industry that don’t seem to share these important qualities.
In my personal opinion the final page felt a bit rushed, and didn’t seem to carry the overall style that the previous pages did. Although the audience seem to see it differently and this page also seem gather a good mark. I think the audiences reaction also reflected my view, fortunately the audience wasn’t so harsh.
All in all i think that the result that the audience gave was very positive and made me happy as we had put a lot of time and effort in as a group. I also think that the mark they gave it was deserved as i really think it was a good piece of work.
If i could do this project again i would focus on properly on making the magazines style more consistent throughout, as i think it was done well and that point wasn’t that important i just think it could of had a more recognizable motif. Maybe this was down to bad time management or a conflict of ideas, but i think we compromised and settled down with a style we were all happy with.
