A Critics Wet Dream
The film industry is a challenging and ever-changing world, every trend and art style gets passed around from year to year without much original fresh content going to the surface, instead we get a carousel of stolen ideas and tired overused trends. This hungry industry is always looking for a fresh face and we think we might have just found one. His name is Dorian Turner and we think he’s the industries best kept secret. His style is fresh and unique and a refreshing breeze to the repetitive reality of the film industry.
His film “Kiss” already has critics raving as it’s a perfect blend of gritty British noir reminiscent of the Ipcress File with a hint Quentin Tarantino’s classic in your face violence. Black and white photography has become a running theme in his films with sharp crisp lines that portray beautifully on the big screen. He also uses silence to his advantage betraying powerful emotions with a quiet bleak soundtrack that almost does the opposite as it amplifies the tension in the scene.
Dorian Turner is a director that we fill pays homage to the old days of cinema well also bringing new themes and ideas to the table, he has the skill to work with a relatively small budget whilst also giving the audience such a spectacle they believe that I was made on vast amounts of money. There is a trend today that when directors want to portray emotion they just do it through the actor’s face or dialogue, this is sad because real cinematography betraying themes and conventions is really a dying art preserved only buy directors of the past, but with Dorian Turner this is different he uses of wide variety of shots that haven’t been seen in cinema in some examples since the 30s. He is a critics dream and is the bookys favourite to win best upcoming director at the Sundance Film Festival. Although he has not made many films he’s chilling out modern classics all the time and his rate of fire does not look like it’s slowing down. The industry sees directors come and go every year but we believe we have not seen one like this in a while and that’s why we are giving him our upcoming directors award.
